"Eternal Happiness” Convention Boosts Local Economy Tourism Impact Estimated at NT$200 Million
(中央社財經訊息服務20260706 10:12:29)Attendees of the three-day “Eternal Happiness” convention have boosted the local economy through an estimated NT$200 million in tourism spending. Convention goers began arriving earlier in June and have been staying at local hotels, dining at restaurants, and shopping as they explore Kaohsiung and the surrounding areas.
The “Eternal Happiness” Convention also received recognition from government representatives. Mr. Chen-lu Lin, Director General of the Ministry of the Interior’s Department of Religious and Ceremonial Affairs, stated: “In an era marked by the rapid advancement of AI and increasingly busy lifestyles, this convention organized by Jehovah’s Witnesses provides people with meaningful spiritual support. Its positive impact can be seen in both families and society, offering people a sense of stability and reassurance.”
Ms. Shu-hui Wu, Deputy Director-General of the Kaohsiung City Government’s Department of Civil Affairs, also noted that Jehovah’s Witnesses’ longstanding concern for the community was especially impressive. Following recent heavy rains in Kaohsiung, many volunteers stepped forward to assist with the city government’s response efforts, demonstrating a strong spirit of community service.

The convention, hosted by Jehovah’s Witnesses, closed its three-day run at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center on Sunday — drawing more than 15,000 attendees, including visitors traveling from Canada, India, and other countries.
Local spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses, Yifan Wang expressed, “We’re grateful for the guidance and support of the Kaohsiung City Government, which helped the convention preparations go smoothly. We are also delighted to see 2,500 international visitors enjoying Kaohsiung’s delicious food and beautiful scenery over the past few days. Their smiles have been a wonderful reflection of their experience here.” Local business owners say they welcome the influx of visitors, not only for the economic lift but for their pleasant demeanor.

Meanwhile, attendees say the city’s warm hospitality added to the positivity of the convention experience. A group of delegates from India said, “We overcame many obstacles to attend this international convention in Taiwan. We could hardly believe it would be possible, and yet our hope became a reality. At the airport, train stations, and throughout our journey, we received assistance from many friends. We were deeply touched by their kindness and are especially grateful to the government agencies that helped us. Their support made the entire experience run smoothly.”
The Witnesses are one of the largest non-profit convention organizers in the world and annually plan free three-day programs in host cities where millions come to learn how practical Bible principles can improve lives.
Last year, Jehovah’s Witnesses hosted over 6,000 conventions in nearly 500 languages, including 19 international conventions held in 13 countries. Over 12 million people attended.
