英國重要的音樂獎項水星音樂獎（Mercury Prize）昨日公佈了入圍名單，十二位入圍者包括 Aphex Twin、Florence and the Machine、Jamie xx、 Róisín Murphy 等等，其中 Jamie xx 曾以樂團 The xx 身份，在 2010 年獲得過水星奬，他的《In Colour》也是今年的大熱專輯。另一位二度入圍者是 Ghostpoet，2011 年首張專輯之後，今年的《Shedding Skin》也榮獲提名。
水星音樂獎是英國重要的音樂獎項，表揚對象是英國或愛爾蘭的年度最佳專輯，過去獲獎的專輯包括 Portishead 的《Dummy》、Pulp 的《Different Class》、Antony and the Johnsons 的《I Am a Bird Now》。這個獎也不只是表揚「獨立音樂」，Adele 的《21》也曾入圍過，可當年敗給了 PJ Harvey 註定名留青史的經典專輯《Let England Shake》。
而 Radiohead 與 PJ Harvey，則是並列入圍最多次水星音樂獎的音樂人，皆被提名過四次。但前者從未贏得水星獎，後者則空前地拿了兩座！1997 年《OK Computer》敗給 Roni Size/Reprazent；2001 年《Amnesiac》敗給 PJ Harvey；2003 年《Hail To The Thie》敗給Dizzee Rascal，而第四次是在 2008 年獲得入圍提名的專輯《In Rainbow》，評論雖看好，最終仍敗給了 Elbow。
