Austin Texas is known as the live music capital of the world. All types of music are played and the restaurants are filled with hipsters, musicians, students, government workers and entrepreneurs.

The city has a large university with 50,000 students which adds to the uniqueness of the area. It has a lovely climate so a lot of focus is put on outdoor activities like hiking, biking trails and swimming. Austinites (people from Austin) make an effort to keep their city fun-loving and full of character. The citys unofficial slogan is keep Austin Weird.

It is popular to live in downtown Austin near the music venues, bars and restaurants. The area is also close to the university campus. Families like to live west of downtown which has a neighborhood feel, parks and swimming pools.

Lake Austin is also a great place to relax or enjoy some water sports and Fredericksburg is a popular getaway which has many wineries and historic B&Bs, and it is no further than an hours drive from Austin.

Texas has no income taxes but property taxes are high. The traffic in Austin is becoming a problem and there is not a very extensive public transport system. Overall the price for a medium house in Austin is about $250,000.
