"台美貿易協定獲美國國會支持"

如果情勢順美國國會的意思走的話，可能台美之間馬上就會簽訂台美雙邊投資協定（BIA）。

數名美國國會議員已經提議說有鑑於台灣就亞太平洋地區而言對美國來說的重要性，應該將台灣納入跨太平洋夥伴協議。跨太平洋夥伴協議（TPP）主要由美國推動，其支持者相信台美兩國應該舉行更多政治會議來討論這議題。

駐美台北經濟文化代表處表示25名國會議員已經「表達對台灣國慶日的祝賀並對台加入TPP，以及和美國簽訂台美雙邊投資協定此事表達支持」。支持這想法的國會成員包括美國聯邦參議院外交委員會主席羅伯特梅德南茲，還有民主黨籍眾議院少數黨領袖南希裴洛西。

由於台灣已經是世界貿易組織和亞太經濟合作會議的成員，許多人同意台灣應該納入TPP之中。台灣今年也獲邀參與國際民航組織，顯示台灣在國際上日益重要。

(Local) Taiwan-US Trade Pact Backed By Congress

A bilateral trade investment agreement (BIA) may soon be signed between the US and Taiwan if current members of the American congress have their way.

Several American congress members have proposed that given the importance of Taiwan to the US in terms of the Asian-Pacific region that Taiwan should be included in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has been driven mainly by the US, and its supporters believe the two nations should have more political meetings to discuss the issue.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US stated that 25 Congress members have, extended National Day congratulations to Taiwan and expressed support for the nations participation in the TPP, as well as the signing of a BIA with the US. Congressional members supporting the idea include Robert Menendez, the chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and Nancy Pelosi, the US House of Representatives Minority Leader.

Since Taiwan is already a member of the WTO and APEC, many people agree it should be included in the TPP. Taiwan has also been invited to participate in the International Civil Aviation Organization this year, illustrating its growing importance internationally.
