(Travel) East Meets West in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of the worlds most international of cities, and with overtly British and Chinese influences, this is truly a place where East meets West. That isnt the only contrast youll discover here V youll also see run-down streets sitting next to sparkling new developments and find some of the areas best-dressed inhabitants eating in some of the grimiest noodle bars.
For a look at the Chinese side of the city, visit some of its beautiful old temples and make sure you spare time for the Chi Lin Nunnery. The temple complex was built in a traditional style and was modeled on Tang-Dynasty architecture. Outside, the lotus ponds and gardens will transport you far, far away from the city. When you get hungry, try the noodles and a portion or two of dim sum.
The British left their mark on Hong Kong in a variety of different ways, and one of the most notable is the tram system. It has been running for over 100 years and has become a tourist attraction in its own right. You could also try cocktails at one of the citys many British-style bars. Whatever you get up to, a trip to Hong Kong will definitely be an eye-opening experience.
