"北市將增設英語情境中心"

在東亞，許多國家如日本、韓國、新加坡、香港等，都在強化英語教育。在台灣，雖然大家也都知道英語的重要性，除了提早到國小就開始教授英語外，坊間的英語補習班也四處林立。但台灣民眾的英語程度跟鄰近幾個國家如：香港、新加坡、菲律賓相比，仍有很大的加強空間。

為了讓台灣的下一代能夠順利與世界接軌，國內的教育單位也開始著手為孩子們創造英語環境。最近台北市教育局就準備在台北市大安區、信義區、士林區、內湖區增設國小英語情境中心，未來期望能達成每區至少建置一所的目標。

教育局並表示，希望能透過一區一個情境中心的建置，並增加情境中心的開放時間以及外籍教師的巡迴授課；鼓勵學校安排學生參與體驗，以增進學生對英語學習的興趣。

(Culture) Taipei City to Build English Villages

Many countries in East Asia, such as Japan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong, are strengthening their English education. In Taiwan, everyone is aware of the importance of English. Besides bringing the teaching of the language forward to elementary schools, English cram schools can also be found everywhere on the streets. In spite of this, compared to neighboring countries like Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines, the Taiwanese peoples level of English still has a lot of room for improvement.

In order for the next generation of Taiwanese to connect better with the world, educational institutions in the country have set out to create an English environment for children. Recently, the Department of Education, Taipei City Government, has been preparing to add English Villages to Taipei Citys Daan District, Xinyi District, Shilin District, and Neihu District. It aims to build at least one village in each district in the future.

The Education Department says it hopes the construction of one village in each district, extension of the villages opening hours, and increase in the number of classes taught by foreign teachers, can encourage schools to arrange for students to go and experience the facilities and thus heighten their interest in learning English.
