(Health) Is Eating Chocolate the Secret to a Nobel Prize?
When we hear Nobel Prize winners, we usually think of great minds, hard work and maybe even luck. But it appears that it might have something to do with having a sweet tooth.
Research has shown that cocoa or chocolates are good for our minds because they contain flavanol which can slow down or improve age-related mental decline. This aroused the curiosity of Dr. Franz Meerli, who wondered if this could mean a connection between the amount of chocolate consumed in each country and how smart the people living there are.
After comparing the countries that have Nobel prize winners with their annual chocolate consumption per person, Dr. Meerli found a surprising powerful correlation. The country that ate the most chocolate had the highest number of winners. Switzerland came first, closely followed by Sweden and Denmark. The US and Germany were in the middle, while China and Japan were at the back of the pack.
Of course, the results would need to undergo further studies to prove their validity. The doctor joked that his information doesnt prove that eating chocolate makes a person smarter. It could be the other way around, meaning that smart people just eat more chocolate.
