(Travel) Australia Increases in Popularity as Gap Year Destination

The latest figures released by Australias Department of Immigration and Citizenship showed that the number of people applying for a working holiday visa to the country has increased by seven percent in the 12 months from the end of June 2011. Furthermore, the number of visitors that extended their working holiday visa by another year grew by 28.5%. Australias outdoor style, diverse geographical features and linguistic and cultural links to Britain, have allowed the country to maintain its popularity as a gap year destination. Those between the ages of 18 to 30 are eligible to apply for Australian working holiday visas and successful applicants can stay in the country for up to a year. Meanwhile, they can also work for the same employer for six months.
